Whyteleafe motorhead Charlie Robertson is targeting a good start to his maiden race in the Michelin Ginetta GT4 SuperCup this weekend.

The 17-year-old won the 2012 Ginetta Junior Championship and raced in the BRDC Formula 4 Championship last year, finishing third.

But now he takes his bow in the SuperCup when it features in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at the Brands Hatch Indy Circuit.

As well as reuniting with the Ginetta brand, with whom he made his car racing debut in 2011, Robertson is continuing his unbroken relationship with HHC Motorsport into the new season as the Jody Hemmings and Charlie Kemp-led squad also makes its debut in the Ginetta GT4 SuperCup.

“I can’t wait for the season to start, next weekend can’t come soon enough”, said the Investigo-supported racer.

“Brands is my local track, and we’ve always done well there, so it’s the perfect place to make my debut in the Ginetta GT4 SuperCup.

"We had a lot of options on the table for 2014, but I’m really happy we settled on a return to the BTCC package – it’s the best in the UK.”

Off the back of his Ginetta Junior title success a couple of years ago at the age of 15, which catapulted the Surrey-based Scotsman into the headlines, Charlie made his single-seater debut last season in BRDC Formula 4 and put together a superb championship bid.

Taking three race wins and six further podiums, he ended the season third in the driver standings and his standout performances were rewarded with a nomination for the 2013 McLaren Autosport BRDC Award – the youngest ever driver to be put forward for the renowned accolade.

The significant increase in budget required to climb the single-seater ladder into Europe has seen Robertson turn his attention back to sportscar racing.

The move into the Michelin Ginetta GT4 SuperCup, piloting a 370bhp V6-engined Ginetta G55, could pay dividends if pre-season testing is an indicator.

Roberston said: “Everything has gone well in testing, the car is great to drive and having the continuity of working with the guys at HHC again is a huge bonus.

“We won the championship in Ginetta Junior, won races in F4 so the aim has to be to do the same in the SuperCup.

"It won’t be easy, there are some very experienced drivers on the grid this year, but I’m confident we can do a good job.”
