Worcester Park’s Howard Fuller suffered a scare as he was taken to hospital following a crash on his VW Cup debut with Team Hard at Oulton Park on Saturday.

The 21-year-old’s Volkswagen Golf was involved in a start-line pile up in the first of two rounds and was air-lifted to hospital before being discharged with extensive bruising.

He said: “I don’t remember much about the crash.

“I was hit by at least three cars and I thought I was in serious trouble – the medics thought I’d broken my hip and the car is a write-off.

“But I must thank the medical staff, the marshals, the air ambulance crew, the hospital and Team Hard for building a strong car that probably saved my life. “I’m a lucky man.”

New Malden’s Tom Onslow-Cole got his British GT Championship campaign off to a slow start at the same venue as he and team-mate Paul White finished 16th in each of their two series races at the Cheshire track.
