Herne Hill Harriers' athletes continued their promising progress towards summer track success with a series of impressive results at the weekend.

Notably, 16-year-old Lascelles Hussey, racing for Harrow School, broke the two-minute barrier for 800m for the first time and did so emphatically with a time of one minute 58.2 seconds, down from a previous best of 2.03.

Hussey then followed up with an 1,500m run in 4:14.8, repeating his second placing in his earlier 800m.

Meanwhile, Blade Ashby won the 400m hurdles in a huge personal best of 52.67secs at the Kinnaird & Sward Trophy meeting at Kingsmeadow.

Ashby's older brother Thomas also notched a lifetime best, jumping 2.01m in the high jump, while also throwing the discus 43m, a shot season's best of 13.82m, long jumping 6.75m and clocking 15.50secs in the 110m hurdles.

Peter Phillips ran what he described as a "relaxed 400m" in 48.98secs, while Mike Cummings ran a "solid season opener" in clocking 4.03.97 in the 1,500m.

Jessie Knight also began her outdoor season with third place in the women's 400m at the Loughborough Students' BUCS Trials meeting, clocking 55.2secs.

Herne Hill athletes completed a clean sweep of some of the parkruns - Jonathan Stead won the Bushy parkrun in 16.00, six seconds short of his parkrun best.

Elsewhere, Mike Boyle won the Dulwich Park event in 16.43, Jonny Muir was first at Burgess Park in 16.49 and Mohammed Ismail claimed victory at Brockwell Park in 17.31.
