Hercules Wimbledon turn their Rosenheim League fortunes around
After a disastrous start to their 2014 Rosenheim League Eastern Division programme in the first round, Hercules Wimbledon's men's team bounced back to win the second encounter at Croydon Arena.
Not to be outdone, the club's women's team put up a strong fight before being pipped by a single point in their contest.
The men's team led from the start of the evening meeting with Rob Tuer scoring a runaway victory in the 2,000m steeplechase in six minutes 47.81 seconds, beating his only opponent by more than two minutes.
He headed a quartet of individual winners with sprinter Joseph Chukwuadinula gaining a fine double in the 100 and 200m in 11.17secs and 22.78secs.
The other success came in the high jump where all-rounder Oliver Tresise cleared a winning 1.65m.
It was a solid team performance by Hercules Wimbledon's athletes who were placed in the top three in all 12 events.
Tresise was also runner-up in the 400m and discus, Tuer followed up his steeplechase win by finishing second in the 1,500m with teenager Cassian Hyde also finishing second in the 800m.
Backing up the four wins, Kieran White was third in the 3,000m, over-40 veteran David Harris third in the long jump and over-50 veteran Kevin Snelling was third in the hammer.
The club also finished third in the 4x200m relay.
Match result: 1 Hercules Wimbledon 48; 2 Belgrave 45; 3 Croydon 35; 4 Serpentine 26; 5 Herne Hill 14.

The quartet of Heather Letley, Emilie Bokor-Ingram, Hannah Fernando and Laura Wignall were the club's only success in the women's match taking the 4x200m relay.
Letley was also second in the high jump and third in the discus with Bokor-Ingram third in the 100m and Fernando third in the 3,000m.
Match result: 1 Belgrave 19, Hercules Wimbledon 18; 3 Serpentine 11, 4= Croydon and Herne Hill 9 each.

The next Rosenheim League Eastern Division match is at Wimbledon Park on Wednesday, June 11, starting at 6.45pm.
This weekend, Hercules Wimbledon host a Southern Women's League Division One match at their Wimbledon Park track headquarters on Saturday, starting at noon.
On Sunday, the club's youngsters travel to Woodcote School, Coulsdon, for their second Ebbisham Boys League meeting of the season.
