Charlie Edwards’ Commonwealth Games boxing adventure lasted just three rounds after a second round defeat to Scotland’s Reece McFadden – much to his dissatisfaction.

Having been handed a bye in the first round, the 21-year-old flyweight from Beddington faced the surprise package of the competition McFadden, who had beaten gold medal favourite Andrew Selby in his first round bout.

Edwards lost all three rounds on points, handing the Scot a quarter-final spot against Oteng Oteng from Botswana.

Edwards said: “It is what you expect. Now he is the golden boy.

"I am not one who says I got robbed but I really thought I won it, I thought I did enough but that's the way it goes, we are in Scotland."

Compatriot Joe Joyce from Putney overcame through his first round super-heavyweight bout against Keddy Agnes of Seychelles.

The 28-year-old won all three rounds on points, and will now face Scotland’s Ross Henderson in Tuesday’s quarter-finals.
