A record breaking field completed the Bushy Park parkrun to mark its 10th birthday in style on Saturday.

A total of 1,705 athletes – including the 13 runners who started the very first event on October 2, 2004 – took on the five kilometre course in a race that was started by parkrun founder Paul Sinton-Hewitt CBE.

Ealing, Southall & Middlesex Athletics Club’s Jamie Taylor-Caldwell set a new personal best of 15 minutes 59 seconds to win on the day, while St Mary’s Richmond AC’s Kate Brown was the first woman home as she finished 28th in 17:37.

At the event’s annual awards Ed Higgins collected the John Hanscomb Trophy for best male athlete and Polly Adams claimed the Sonia O’Sullivan Salver as best female.

The parkrun family has grown to include 500 similar weekly runs at venues in the UK and around the globe.
