Nine Croydon Harriers were in action at the English Schools Championships at Gateshead last weekend.

Sophie Elliss scooped silver in the inter girls’ 80m hurdles in a lifetime best of 11.36secs to make it three silver medals in a row at the championships.

Daniel Luke replicated the feat in the senior boys’ 200m in 21.90secs.

Marcia Sey grabbed bronze in the junior girls’ 75m hurdles in 11.05secs, while training partner Rhiannon Gayle finished fifth in the junior girls’ 200m.

Sey and Gayle were also part of the Surrey Schools 4x100m quartet who notched silver.

Other top eight finishes came courtesy of David Olajiga (senior boys’ shot, 13.91m) and last year’s junior boys’ 100m champion Tyrese Johnson-Fisher had qualified for the inter boys’ final, but was forced to withdraw due to a hamstring injury.

Obi Onyejekwe (inter boys’ 80m hurdles) and Mariam Ojobowale (junior girls’ 100m) both made the semi-finals of their events, while Tosin Salami was in action in the inter girls’ 200m.
