Former Chelsea defender Darren Barnard has left Aldershot Town - fuelling speculation that he could winging his way to AFC Wimbledon to team up with old boss Terry Brown.

Shots captain Barnard has left the Hampshire-based side after making 126 appearances in three seasons for the Recreational Ground side; two-and-a-half of which were under new Dons manager Brown.

The 35-year-old left-back, who also played under Brown during the Dons boss' time at Wokingham Town, is not having his contract renewed by the Conference side fuelling rumours that he could be on his way to Kingsmeadow to team up with his-ex boss once more.

Though Barnard, who also played for Grimsby, Bristol City and Barnsley, will face stiff competition for the left-back slot from Michael Haswell who is widely regarded as the best full back in the Ryman Premier Division.

Brown has stated he is looking to draft in an experienced defender into his back-four and Barnard could be the man.

Furthermore, Dave Anderson's successor has also refused to rule out bringing in players he has worked with in the past indicating that Barnard could be the next piece in the Terry Brown revolution.

Brown said: "We've brought in Marcus Gayle who has a wealth of experience but I also want to bring in a senior player to slot into the back four."
