Croydon Harriers are celebrating on two fronts after a duo of sprinters hit the top of the UK rankings.

Tyrese Johnson-Fisher became the fastest man over 60m in the U17s rankings when he clocked 6.89 seconds at the London Indoor Games at Lee Valley.

His clubmate, 17 year-old Robert Sakala, then clocked 7.92secs for the 60m hurdles event to go top of the UK rankings in the U20s.

Also in action over the men’s 60m flat were Lee McLaughlin (6.88secs), Damien Powell (6.98secs for a personal best), Edwin Miles (7.16secs) and Oje Izirein (7.65secs).

Elsewhere, almost 30 Croydon Harriers took on the best in the South of England cross-country championships at Parliament Hill.

The U13 boys quartet of Zachary Blair (239th), Imran Salim (240th), Douglas Aikman (261st) and Murali Varathan (263rd) fared the best in 29th.

Kyra Sethna-McIntosh (136th), Cassandra Howard (233rd), Sasha Howard (242nd) and Leanne Moore (250th) waved the girls' U13s flag finishing 33rd.

In the U15 boys ranks, Jordan O’Dongo (234th) led home the Croydon challenge, and was supported by Adam Shew (244th), Jonathon Long (248th) and Neal Kesterson (255th).

There was also representation in other young athlete age groups thanks to Emily Howe (U20 women’s race, 74th), Jessica Moore (142nd U15 girls) and Dane Lawrence (162nd U17 men).

In the men’s race, Croydon placed 50th out of the 70 teams who closed in. Mark Lynch was 363rd, and good packing then followed thanks to David Brown (388th), Glenn Barden (394th), Dan Barnes (528th), Neil Aikman (619th) and Mark Maginn (620th).
