Steve Parish was devastated Crystal Palace were unable to reward their “exceptional” fans with FA Cup glory at Wembley.

The Eagles took the lead through Jason Puncheon but goals from Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard gave United their first major trophy under Louis van Gaal.

Palace supporters were in fine voice throughout the contest and continued to chant songs after the devastating defeat.

Parish insisted the display of support, which involved the unveiling of huge banners before the game, was “unbelievable”.

He said: “It was unbelievable. We out sung the other team the whole game, even when we went 2-1 down. They are exceptional.

“I am just gutted that we could not give them a cup and we are not taking it back to south-east London. I’m absolutely devastated.

“We will try and do something for them next year if we can.”

Parish was equally proud of his Palace players, who had chances to sink Man United but fell at the last hurdle.

“It was a great day overall,” the co-owner added.

“The supporters were absolutely amazing and the players were amazing, it just was not to be in the end.”
