Sutton boxer Danny "Cassius" Connor is back in the ring this weekend looking to keep himself busy and win a belt at the same time.

The six-year veteran takes on Daniel Bazo at the Tolworth Recreation Centre on July 16 for the super lightweight challenge belt.

Connor, 30, has 15 wins out of 26 bouts to his name, and is unbeaten in his past four outings.

Now is hoping that, with success at Tolworth, he can push himself back into the main title pictures as early as next year.

He said: “I’ve boxed the likes of [Michael] Devine twice, [Chris] Evangelou twice and [Tyler] Goodjohn three times so far in my career, but the losses, the main crux of them, were early in my career.

“When I fought the final of the Prizefighter [against Chris Jenkins in 2013, and lost] I had two burst eardrums, but I’ll fight him again that’s for sure.

"The doctors, my trainer, they all wanted me to stop, but there was a lot on the line so I couldn’t.

“After winning the Area title in 2013, I let myself down when I failed to defend it against Tony Owen. He was awkward, but it was a good, close bout.”

Connor’s last outing was at York Hall in May where he defeated Andrej Moravek on points to register win number 15, now he just wants to shake off some cobwebs and add another title to the collection.

“My last fight was awkward for me as it was at a different weight to what I’m used to,” added Connor.

“It’ll certainly be nice to win another belt though. This fight keeps me busy and will be something else for the collection.

"I’ve also the added bonus that it shows the board that I’m still capable of fighting at the top level in the sport.

“The aim now is to win this title then drop down to lightweight and fight whoever for the soon-to-be vacant English strap – I’ll certainly take Devine for that one and that’s what I want.

“I’ll fight him, [Scotty] Cardle, [Sean] Dodd, any of them, and I’ll do it tomorrow, but will they? I’ll get there eventually though.”

The show, Genesis, takes place on July 16 2016 at the Tolworth Recreation Centre on Fullers Way North.

It is headlined by Thomas Kindon and Danny Connor in separate Challenge Belt title fights and also starring Nick Jenman, Nick Webb and the WBC Mediterranean welterweight champion, Florin Cardos.
