Crystal Palace’s work on transfer deadline day in the end amounted to just five loan moves away from Selhurst Park.

An attempt to bring in Everton midfielder James McCarthy fell on stony ground, leaving the Eagles’ recruitment tally on five new names over the transfer window.

Christian Benteke’s £27m arrival from Liverpool was the marquee signing, breaking the Eagles’ transfer record and bolstering the frontline in one swoop.

Joining the Belgian international up front is Loic Remy – the Chelsea man has joined on loan until the end of the season.

Palace also splashed the cash on defender James Tomkins (£10m) from West Ham United and Andros Townsend from Newcastle United (£13m), while goalkeeper Steve Mandanda arrive from French outfit Marseille for an undisclosed fee.

By contrast, 16 players have left Palace on either a permanent or loan deal – the biggest of which is Yannick Bolasie’s £25m sale to Premier League rivals Everton.

Going and not coming back are also Dwight Gayle (£10m to Newcastle United), David Gregory (free to Cambridge United), Adrian Mariappa (free to Watford), Jerome Binnom-Williams (undisclosed to Peterborough), Alex McCarthy (undisclosed to Southampton), Jake Gray (free to Luton Town), Chris Kettings (free to Oldham) and, of course, club legend Mile Jedinak (undisclosed to Aston Villa).

There are seven players going out on season-long loans, the least surprising being Jonny Williams’ return to Ipswich Town.

Elsewhere, Keshi Anderson has joined Bolton Wanderers, Ryan Inniss has moved east to Southend,

Sullay Kaikai has switched to Championship outfit Brentford, Hiram Boetang has gone on loan to Bristol Rovers, Luke Croll is with Exeter City and Freddie Lapado is an Oldham Athletic player for the season.
