Dougie Freedman could play a major part in signing RB Leipzig winger Oliver Burke.

The ex-Bolton boss rejoined the Eagles as the club’s new sporting director on Monday.

And he is set to have an instant impact with Palace readying a bid for Burke, who Freedman managed at Nottingham Forest.

Freedman gave the 20-year-old his senior league debut in February 2015.

He would go on to establish himself as a first-team regular and his form earned him a £13m move to German side RB Leipzig last summer.

But he made just five starts in a disappointing debut season, and is not wanted by RB Leipzig chief Ralph Hasenhutt.

The Guardian say Palace are preparing a bid to bring the Scotland international back to England.

The Eagles need cover for Wilfried Zaha, who is sidelined with a knee injury.

Speaking about interest in Burke, Palace boss Frank de Boer said: “He is a very promising, young Scottish player. It's always interesting to look at, but we are focusing on other players, too.

“We want quality players who can improve the squad, who are one hundred per cent fit and can fit in directly with how we are playing.”
