Peterborough have slapped a £6.5m price tag on Crystal Palace and Leeds transfer target Jack Marriott.
The striker was League One’s top scorer with 27 goals last season as Posh finished ninth.
Crystal Palace are in desperate need of a frontman with Christian Benteke netting just three times in the past 12 months.
But they face competition for Marriott’s signature from a host of Championship clubs including Nottingham Forest, Leeds, Sheffield Wednesday and Aston Villa.
Peterborough owner Darragh MacAnthony believes Marriott, 23, would be a good fit for Palace.
In social media post, he said: “Marriott is made for them but now that they are safely secure in Prem, which was a fantastic effort, I can’t see them buying a L1 [League One] player no matter how good he is.
“Most Prem teams go for foreign options, I’d imagine. [It] is the way it is. Good luck, though.”
