Crystal Palace are set to miss out on Roma striker Gregoire Defrel.
The 27-year-old has been linked with moves to Palace, Newcastle, Everton and West Ham this summer.
But reports in Italy say Defrel has snubbed a move to the Premier League in favour of signing for Sampdoria.
Roma were obligated to pay a £17m fee to Sassuolo for Defrel last month following his loan spell.
He scored just once in 20 appearances for Roma but featured in their dramatic 4-1 win over Barcelona in the Champions League quarter-finals.
Palace are still looking to sign a striker to compete with Christian Benteke and Alexander Sorloth.
Boss Roy Hodgson is thought to be closing in on long-term target Khouma Babacar, who is valued at £12m.
