Brentford boss Andy Scott is expected to complete formalities on a deal to snap up Notts County winger Myles Weston this week.

The 21-year-old kicked off pre-season with the Bees’ at their Osterley training ground this week and is expected to be handed former midfielder Glenn Poole’s squad number - 11 - having turned down a three-year deal to stay with the Magpies.

A tribunal is expected to rule on the transfer fee Scott will be forced to fork out for the former Charlton Athletic trainee, who impressed in two clashes between the club’s last season as Brentford secured the League Two title.

And County chairman John Armstong-Holmes has opened a war of words by labelling Weston ‘foolish’ on deciding to swap Meadow Lane for Griffin Park.

“The only reason he’s been attractive (to other clubs) is due to the work Ian McParland did with him last season,” he told BBC Sport.

“The season before he hardly played any games and his fitness levels were low.

“Last season he played 40-odd games and was almost a regular in every team we put out on the pitch.

“I think he’s a foolish boy. That’s his choice, but he’s made a mistake.”

News of Weston’s imminent arrival will compensate for the fact the Bees missed out on former loan striker Billy Clarke, who has penned a deal to join Championship side Blackpool after being released by Ipswich Town.
