Brentford striker Ben Strevens is hoping Saturday’s 2-0 triumph over Stockport County will help ease the weight of expectation on his shoulders when he returns to the starting line-up.

The 29-year-old completed his first full 90 minutes since breaking his leg on Monday afternoon, when the Bees second string crashed 2-0 to Leyton Orient at Griffin Park.

It was the third reserve team Strevens has featured in and the third in succession to have ended in defeat following last week’s 3-1 defeat to Brighton and 1-0 reverse at QPR.

The former Dagenham & Redbridge man, who impressed during pre-season, is yet to find the net in a competitive fixture for his new club and is still to make his first-team debut since being carried off against Hayes & Yeading in August.

And he reckons returning to winning side is only going to make the job of settling in even easier.

“Because I’ve not been playing people are talking about me even more so it puts a little bit more pressure on,” he told the Ealing (Road) Comedies podcast last week.

“Hopefully, we’ll turn a bit of a corner so that when I do come back we are on a bit of a run and there won’t be too much expected of me.”

Strevens return will see Andy Scott with a fully fit squad at his disposal meaning it is unlikely the Griffin Park chief will be dipping into the loan market any time soon.

“I am very confident in the squad we have got,” he added.
