Brentford midfielder David Hunt admits it may take a while before he regains full-fitness after feeling the after effects of his return to action against Stockport County four days later.

The 27-year-old had been sidelined with a freak foot injury but still managed 90 minutes in Saturday’s 2-0 win, despite completing just three days of full training in the past month.

Hunt was forced back into action in the absence of the suspended Marcus Bean and earned praise from boss Andy Scott for an all action display.

The former Leyton Orient man reckons it was good to come back in to a winning performance, although it might be a little while before he is back to his best.

“I injured a tendon in my foot putting my boots on before the Huddersfield game - which was strange in itself - and it has taken a lot longer than expected to get better,” he said.

“It was hard at the weekend and I’m still struggling a bit now. I haven’t really done much training recently, to make sure the foot is right.

“We’ve been a bit unlucky in a couple of games because we’ve conceded goals when teams have been making only one or two chances, so it was nice to get a win and a clean sheet.

“Hopefully, we can get back on a good run. That is what this team has been about over the last 18 months.”

Centre-back James Wilson was another making a welcome return to the starting line-up as he displaced Alan Bennett on the back four after missing the previous two games.

And the 20-year-old admitted they are big boots to fill.

“It was good to be part of a performance that got a cleansheet and we’ll be out to get a few more,” he added.

“I’ve been filling in at right-back recently, but centre-back is my favourite position and hopefully I can get a run at it. Alan is a big player for us and it is going to be hard to keep him out of the team.”
