Brentford's Osborne wants to extend Griffin Park stay

Brentford defender Karleigh Osborne says he is good enough to be a regular starter and is out to land a new Griffin Park contract.

The 21-year-old is in his sixth season at the club and is approaching 100 appearances for the Bees since making his debut as a 17-year-old against Hull City.

Osborne, who is in the final year of his current deal and sat out Saturday’s 1-0 FA Cup triumph over Walsall, has had the chance to cement a place in the starting line-up in recent weeks.

He is one of the only players from the Brentford youth team he graced as a teenager, to still be plying his trade in the Football League and he believes he owes it to the class of 2004 to make the most of his chances.

“It feels like a long time since I made my debut. I’ve been here a while and played a fair few games, so from that point of view I see myself as a senior pro,” he told the Ealing Road Comedies podcast last week.

“I’ve definitely improved and feel I’m good enough to play week in, week out. I just want to do my best for myself and the team.

“This is the final year of my contract so God knows what is going to happen. All I can do is give my best, hope it is what the manager wants, hope he keeps me in the team and hopefully I’ll get a new deal.

“I think only Clark Masters at Aldershot is still playing in the League from my youth team, so there is a sense of achievement in still being a professional.

“The likes of Darius Charles still keep in touch to see how I’m doing. I feel like I owe it to them to keep pushing on because they helped me come through the ranks.”
