Luke Moore admits he has been left stunned by the news that he faces up to six months on the sidelines after suffering a hip injury in AFC Wimbledon’s recent victory at Kidderminster.
Moore, who has made a big impact at Kingsmeadow since his summer transfer from Ebbsfleet United, limped off with what was first thought to be nothing more than a muscle injury.
But scans have shown the seven-goal striker is suffering from a bony outgrowth, which may require an operation.
Moore said: “I just came off against Kidderminster because my hip was hurting but I assumed it was just a muscle spasm.
“I thought I might be out for a couple of weeks, but it turns out it is a lot worse than that.
“I had a scan and when they told me the problem and how long I could be out I was in complete shock.
“I am absolutely gutted and to be honest I still don’t think it has completely sunk in.
“I have started the season really well and I cannot believe I might not play again this year.”
Moore will visit another doctor this weekend to see if there is any way to avoid surgery, but initial indications are not good.
And with the Dons back on form, the 21-year-old is frustrated not to be playing his part.
He added: “I have never had a serious injury before so this is all new to me.
“We have had a really good run of form and I am desperate to play my part.
“I will still be around the club but I will obviously not be able to help on the pitch.
“The club have told me to sit tight and put my feet up, and I just have to hope for the best.”
