Nathan Elder reckons AFC Wimbledon are in good hands with Terry Brown at the helm despite the Dons boss culling half of his playing squad recently.

Elder was one of 14 players cut loose by Wimbledon, returning to Shrewsbury Town as his loan spell came to a conclusion at the end of the campaign.

But the striker has no hard feelings over his departure from Kingsmeadow.

Elder said: “I cannot say I am too surprised about going as my future had never really been talked about.

“For me it was just a game by game thing and enjoying myself while I was there.

“I must say I am surprised by some of the players who have been let go as having worked with them they are great footballers.

“But Terry is a very experienced manager at that level and he can obviously see the bigger picture, which sometimes you cannot do as a player.

“I think the players that are still there have more pressure on them in a way as they have to prove that the boss was right to keep them on.”

Incredibly, Elder revealed he suffered a cruciate ligament injury, the sixth Dons player to do so that campaign, in Wimbledon’s game with Tamworth which will keep him out of action until November.

But the 25-year-old has nothing but good memories from his time in Kingston.

Elder added: “I had a great time there and I consider some of the players I left behind as really good friends.

“Considering I was only there a matter of months I think that says it all as far as atmosphere goes.

“On the pitch I think I did OK, but I am sure things could have gone better.

“But Wimbledon is a great club, with a great set-up and great fans and I really wish them all the best in the future.”
