Brentford boss Andy Scott reckons the quality in his squad is making it harder than ever to strengthen in the January transfer window.

Scott has so far only added Millwall midfielder Marc Laird his squad this month as he looks to mount a League One play-off challenge in 2011.

The Griffin Park chief has vowed to bolster resources with striker Carl Cort, midfielder Sam Saunders, defender Karleigh Osborne and Charlie MacDonald all struggling with injuries.

And he insists it is not an easy task despite having room in the budget to bring players in.

“We need to strengthen the squad but everyone is after the same sort of players, “ he said.

“The January window is always difficult but we will keep persevering and hopefully it pays off.

“It is getting tougher every year because there are less and less players out there and not so many good ones.

“Because our squad is getting better and better it is getting harder to get people in that are going to improve us.

“That is a testament to the players that are here and their attitude. It doesn’t stop us trying it just makes it more difficult.”

Cort is unlikely to be fit anytime soon, while OSborne and Saunders are doubts for the weekend trip to Boundary Park.

But MacDonald is expected to shake off the effects of a knock picked up in the 1-1 League One draw with Exeter City.
