Kiwi prop Tim Fairbrother is right at home at Quins and says their style of play is only going to help him find his best – sooner rather than later.

The 29-year-old has slipped seamlessly into director of rugby Conor O’Shea’s front row since arriving from Super 15 side Western Force.

The former Huricane puts it down to a gameplan that has yielded more than 97 points in the Premiership games so far, including Saturday’s thumping 42-6 win over Gloucester.

And long may it continue.

“It is an expansive and fast tempo brand of rugby we’re playing, which I’m very used to, having played so much in the Super 15,” he says.

“It is probably the closest you can get to Super 15 rugby and it has been easy to adapt.

“It is going to take a little while to get to my best because I’m not used to the scrummaging over here.

“Back home I knew the opposition and their little ways inside out. I’ve just got to learn the little differences I guess.”

Fairbrother has made a big impression at the Stoop, in the same way that led to him training with the Australian squad Down Under.

The former junior All Black qualifies to play for England, the Wallabies and New Zealand through his grand parents and says he has already addressed where his allegiances lie.

“I want to play to the best of my ability and the highest level I can – like any rugby player,” he adds.

“Wherever the oppportunity comes from, I’ll take it.”

Tries from Sam Smith, Luke Wallace (2), Ugo Monye and Chris Brooker made it comfortable at the weekend, but Fairbrother expects a different challenge from Ceri Jones, James Percival et al at Worcester Warriors on Saturday.

“It is going to be really physical and with a few of the Quins old boys there, I think there is going to be a fair bit of niggle,” he says.
