Sutton United midfielder Romone McCrae says he's only gone to Kingstonian to find his fitness and when he does he wants a spot in the Gander Green Lane engine room.

The 21-year-old former Peterborough United youngster starred as Ks ended a run of five straight defeats with back-to-back 1-0 wins over Hendon and Lewes this week.

Doswell, who watched Craig Watkins net a hat-trick in Saturday's 4-1 hammering of Maidenhead, rates the former Crawley Town man highly, but has preferred to use him as an impact player off the bench in recent weeks.

McCrae, a victim of Sutton's strength in depth in midfield this term, signed for Ks on a month-long loan at the weekend and he knows only some quality game time in the Ryman Premier League is going to get him a look in back at United.

"There is a lot of competition for places at Sutton and everyone is fighting for their position," he said after his man of the match display against Lewes.

"Because I haven't been playing week in, week out my fitness has dipped and I need to get that back.

"I want to get back to Sutton to fight for my place there, but need to be playing regularly. Hopefully, I'll go back and win my place. That is what I want.

"But if that doesn't happen maybe I'll stay here and help Kingstonian. You never know what will happen."

Doswell has added former Carshalton Athletic striker Joel Ledgister to an already strong squad as he looks for back-up to Watkins and Craig Dundas up top.

United blew Maidenhead away at Gander Green Lane at the weekend going in 4-0 up at the break and eventually cement fourth spot in the Blue Square South table.

Doswell's men, who also had Leroy Griffiths on the scoresheet at the weekend, face Dulwich Hamlet in the FA Cup second qualifying round on Saturday.

And the manager knows a good run will be key to keeping the club's stellar start to the campaign on track.

"It's a pressure game for me because of the financial side," he added.

"We’re not going to win the FA Cup, but we know how important it is for the club, and if we have a good run it allows us to keep the squad together and potentially to add to it.

"If you don’t have a run than the chairman quite rightly needs to look at how he balances the books, so I’m very aware of that and we will be taking the game possibly even more seriously."
