Bees boss Uwe Rosler has revealed hat-trick hero Sam Wood could be out of the running for a return to the starting line-up tomorrow after being sent for x-rays this week, writes Stuart Amos.

The former Bromley full back hit a stunning triple in the 4-4 development squad draw with Bristol Rovers on Tuesday, but picked up knock in the process.

Midfielder Sam Saunders is back in contention for this week’s visit of Huddersfield Town having come through 85 minutes in the same game unscathed.

But with the former Dagenham & Redbridge winger likely to return to the bench this weekend, Rosler admitted the outlook is less promising for Wood.

“I would say there is a good possiblility of at least one of the two Sam’s being in contention for the weekend,” he said.

“They have not got much game minutes between them, so we will have to take it slowly.

“It will be great to have them back because we have a lot of games coming up in October.

“There are players in need of a rest in their positions and we are going to need everyone available to get through a very busy period for the team.”

Striker Michael Grella got the other goal in Tuesday’s draw in the west country and development squad boss Jon De Souza was delighted with his side’s second-half efforts.

“I told the boys at half-time I thought we were treating the game too easily – it was like a testimonial,” he said.

“I asked them to do things properly and to go out and win the game and in the second half I thought we did that.”
