Sutton United boss Paul Doswell hopes his side's FA Cup heroics can reinvigorate the town and lead to bigger attendances at Gander Green Lane.

United eventually succumbed 2-0 to Notts County in the second round on Sunday, having been the better side for much of the match as they forced a string of saves from Magpies keeper Stuart Nelson - including the crucial stop of Leroy Griffiths's penalty.

More than 3,700 fans were in the ground to witness the clash - while countless thousands watched on telelvision - and Doswell, who has his team riding high in the Blue Square South, only hopes the town continues to back his men's bid for promotion this season.

"Hopefully this has re-invigorated people again, I've been here for four season and I'd like to think we have been doing that steadily, "What you do hope is that we can keep a few hundred of those that came for this game.

"What they have seen is a really decent, committed and quality team at this level that they should be proud of."

Sutton had not won again since beating Kettering Town in the first round but it didn't show as Doswell's men dominated large stretches of the match.

The United manager takes his side to Blue Square South leaders Woking on Saturday, the Cards thrashed them 5-0 on the season's opening day.

And the former Eastleigh chief is only too aware of the need to get his side's league campaign back on track after a dip in form in recent weeks..

"This was our cup final and the players and the staff behind the scenes have done the club proud," he added.

"We've made this club the best part of £200,000. One adventure has finished and now the next one begins. We need to keep hold of our play-off place.

"When you are involved in a big cup game you league form tends to drop - it is human nature.

"We are likely to struggle to get the players back up over the next couple of days, but my job is to make sure they are nice and bright to face Woking.

"There will be more than 2,000 there for that game and if we can show the same intensity and quality we are good enough to give anyone in the league a game."
