Shirin Irving went top of the UK U17 women’s sprint hurdles rankings as three Croydon Harriers youngsters enjoyed podium finishes at the London U17 and U15 indoor Games on Saturday, writes Matthew Kiernan.

Highly-rated Irving blasted to the top of the list with a personal time of 8.64 seconds in the 60m hurdles to claim the gold medal at Lee Valley.

There were also lifetime bests in the 60m hurdles for Taylor Campbell, who ran 9.55 in the U15 girls’ race and Kertis Beswick, who clocked 8.20 in the U17 men, as both finished third.

Meanwhile in Sheffield, Twinelle Hopeson, was selected for the South London Sharks at the McCain inter-city challenge, finishing fourth in the 200m in 24.98.

In cross-country action, Dom Nolan led the Harriers challenge at the South East schools inter-county championships in Basildon, with seven Croydon members representing Surrey.

Nolan struck bronze in the senior boys’ race with Peter Chambers seventh.

Stevie Lawrence was 25th in the intermediate girls’ race, with Patrick Lucas 39th and Josh Haasz 40th in the inter boys category.
