Dons guarantee League Two survival
7:51pm Saturday 14th April 2012 in Sport By Graham Moody, Sports Reporter
AFC Wimbledon will compete in the Football League for a second year after securing League Two survival today.
The Dons drew 1-1 with Crawley Town and that result, coupled with Macclesfield Town's failure to beat Crewe Alexandra means they are guaranteed to avoid relegation straight back to the Conference after promotion last year.
The point came at a cost though with striker Jason Prior suffering a suspected double leg break early in the game.
The forward was the victim of a rash challenge by Hope Akpan which saw the Crawley man sent off after just six minutes. Prior is currently in East Surrey hospital and early indications suggest he has broken both the tibia and fibula and will be out of action for some considerable time.
Sammy Moore gave Wimbledon the lead late in the second half only for Gary Alexander to level shortly after.
