Harlequins have denied there has been any contact between them and Championship side London Welsh in relation to a possible ground-share deal at the Stoop next season.

The Exiles clinched a play-off final spot with a 30-27 aggregate triumph over Bedford Blues, despite a 24-17 defeat at Old Deer Park on Sunday.

It leaves head coach Lyn Jones's men 160 minutes from reaching the top flight as they face Cornish Pirates in a two-legged final on May 23 and May 30.

Old Deer Park, as it stands, does not comply with Premiership ground criteria meaning they must find an alternative for home fixtures should they reach the top flight, leading to rumours they could use Stoop.

"Given the ongoing speculation in the media about the possibility of London Welsh using Stoop for the club's home fixtures should it secure promotion to the Aviva Premiership, Harlequins would like to confirm there is no agreement between the clubs nor are any discussions currently taking place with London Welsh about such a possibility," said a club statement from Harlequins on Monday.

London Welsh last week maintained they would be able to conform with the necessary criteria to take their place in the Premiership next season and have been in discussions with at least two venues over a possible deal - some of which have hosted top tier and Heineken Cup rugby this season.

Brentford's Griffin Park home has long been thought to be a possible venue for London Welsh rugby home fixtures.

But in a recent statement club chairman Bleddyn Phillips admitted there were a number of options open to the Exiles.

"So far as we are concerned, we have cooperated fully with PMP Legacy, the consultants appointed by the RFU and Premiership Rugby, and have given them every assistance to conduct an audit on two grounds we are considering for use next season in the event we win the Championship," he said.

"London Welsh have also had discussions with two other clubs whose grounds it believes would already satisfy the MSC (minimum standards criteria) and would thus not require a technical audit.

"We have expressed to the RFU and Premiership Rugby our complete confidence we will be in a position to effect any necessary arrangements in a timely fashion to satisfy any such requirements in advance of the start of the next season to enable the Aviva Premiership fixture list to be prepared in the usual manner."
