Dan Fogg brought the curtain down on his Olympic campaign with a fifth place finish in the 10km open water event.
The Chingford swimmer joined the group for the gruelling endurance race in the Serpentine, Hyde Park, and swam well to finish just outside the medal positions.
Fogg had been in 22nd place at one point but dug deep to cross the line in a time of 1:50:37.3, exactly 37 seconds shy of Canadian Richard Weinberger in third.
The former Waltham Forest Gators competitor had already been in action at the Aquatics Centre during the games, taking eighth spot in the 1500m freestyle final.
Today’s gold medal went to Oussama Mellouli of Tunisia, who completed the race in a time of 1:49:55.1, just three seconds ahead of Germany’s Thomas Lurz in second.
