New Malden’s Tom Onslow-Cole put himself back in the hunt for British Touring Car Championship silverware this season at the weekend, writes Stuart Amos.
The 25-year-old Team eBay Motors star secured a second-place finish in the final race at Snetterton – to go with a sixth and seventh place in the first two races – catapulting him in to the running for the independent drivers championship title.
Onslow-Cole, who has 203 points to lie fourth in the standings, is 62 points adrift of table-topping Andrew Jordan, while his team are second in the independent team championship – three points behind Jordan’s Pirtek Racing outfit.
There are four race weekends remaining, with Knockhill next on the agenda on August 25 and Onslow-Cole looking to end a near
two-year win drought before the end of the campaign.
The former Brooklands College student also has his eye on closing the 16-point gap to team-mate Rob Collard in the overall drivers’ championship table, which has Onslow-Cole seventh and Collard fifth.
