Bird flies in France ahead of Hungary showdown

Hersham’s Sam Bird enjoyed his first taste of French Grand Prix circuit Magny-Cours in a Formula One car in testing this week.

The 25-year-old, who has previous experience of the track in a Formula Three car, clocked a fastest lap of one minute, 19.09 seconds for Mercedes AMG Petronas on Tuesday.

“We’ve collected a lot of data which will take time to sift through,” he said.

Bird is second in the World Series by Renault 3.5 driver’s championship and takes his  flying form to Hungary this weekend looking to repeat  his WSR race win at Silverstone in August.
