Met Police boss Jimmy Cooper has revealed he will give Crawley Town loan striker Jonte Smith a glowing reference when he returns to the League One Red Devils.
Crawley Town loan striker Jonte Smith officially took his Blues tally to seven goals in two games on Saturday as he fired his side to an FA Cup second qualifying round trip to South Midland League Premier Division outfit Berkhamsted next weekend.
Smith, who struck twice in the 2-1 league win over Cray Wanderers earlier this month, scored five and had a deflected effort put down as an own goal as the Met beat Beckenham Town 7-1 in Kent on Saturday to set-up next weekend’s cup tie.
And Cooper, left, has warned Smith he has Allan Tait and Stafforde Palmer waiting in the wings if his form dips.
“It is a lot easier having a player of Jonte Smith up front,” he said.
“He scored five officially, however, I would have also credited him with the other that was given as an own goal.
“He truly is an outstanding prospect who I can only give a glowing report to when I speak to both Richard Barker and Steve Coppell at Crawley.
“He will have to continue to perform as he has with Staff and Taity waiting in the wings to take his place if he drops below the standard he has already set himself.”
The Blues host Canvey Island in the league on Saturday and Cooper, whose men currently languish 14th in the Ryman Premier League table knows what has his attention for now.
“There will be talk of the cup draw, but it’s important we focus on the task against Canvey,” he said.
