Danny 'Cassius' Connor just wants to saviour every moment of being Southern Area light-welterweight champion before making his next move, writes Ziad Chaudry .

The 26-year-old from Carshalton claimed a stunning ten round 98-94 points success over local hot favourite Chris 'The Flash' Evangelou, also 26, on Saturday at prestigious Alexandra Palace, Wood Green.

His seventh professional win in 13 outings was fully deserved especially with the high volume work rate he produced throughout this entertaining ten round affair.

Before the bout Connor, who is managed by Bruce Baker, quoted in the official programme that the 'O' on Evangelou's record did not really bother him because records are for DJs.

But despite saying those words he has ended the Wood Green man's nine fight unbeaten run.

"I feel so ecstatic, I'm happy, I've never been so happy in my whole life," said a jubilant Connor, who in his last fight won the lightly-regarded British Masters title back in May.

"I thought it was close but I made him (Evangelou) miss a lot. I was powdering my jabs, I was the busier fighter.

"Every now and again he caught me with some good shots but I thought I done more work."

Connor could next fight for either the English or British title but he will be more than happy to give Evangelou a rematch: "I'll give him a rematch because it was close, it could go either way. Let's have it where ever I don't care. Whatever anyone want's to bring I'm ready for it.

"Who knows what will happen next. I'll have a little rest then see what happens. Maybe an English and British title, who knows?

"I'll take it slow and see how it goes. I'm just going to enjoy the moment being the Southern champ."
