Crystal Palace new boy Joe Ledley would don a pair of goalkeeper gloves if it meant getting a game, says boss Tony Pulis.

The January recruit from Celtic, who signed on a three-and-a-half year deal for an undisclosed fee, impressed on his Eagles debut against West Bromwich Albion.

It was a goal-scoring debut too, as the 27-year-old buried a header off the corner of fellow debutant Tom Ince.

Ledley played a versatile role that day, and his happiness to do a job has Pulis purring.

He said: "If Joe is picked, he will play wherever we want him to play.

"That has always been his attitude and it was clear from the moment he came to us - he just wants to play football.

"He would play in goal if you picked him for that, and do his best."

While Ledley, Ince and Scott Dann made debuts of impact, one new signing who did not make the field was goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey - although his impact was still felt in the ever-improving form of Julian Speroni.

Pulis said: “When you bring in players as competition, it can go one of two ways.

“Players either step up to the mark, or they fall away – clearly you hope it is the former and in Julian’s case it has been.”
