Frustrating defeat for Palace and the 25,073 fans at Selhurst Park today. They showed a lot of intent but still didn't really look like winning the game.

That's all from us here today. Thanks for reading.

FULL TIME. 1- 0 Southampton

Tense moments, as Palace throw themselves forward. There's plenty of fight out there, but finally Boruc gets his hands back on it and Saints work on slowing the game down again.

Corner Crystal Palace as four minutes of added time is announced.

Rodriguez clumsily deflects behind a searching ball from Ince.

SUB: Davis comes off for Southampton, Ward-Prowse comes on.

YELLOW CARD: Nathaniel Clyne. For a handball, miles out, I think. Not too sure , to be frank.

87 - When Palace go forward, they really do so with hammer and tongs. For a brief second, Jerome's ballooning header looked like it might just have evaded Saint's keeper Artur Boruc but he ended up with a rather nonchalant one-handed grab.

Still 1 - 0 Southampton.

82 - Plenty of boos as Murray goes down on the edge of the area while trying to create some magic. No foul is given.

SUBSTITUTION: Bolasie does come off now, and on comes Jerome Thomas.

78 - The Eagles still chasing hard all over the pitch - Glenn Murray industrious as ever. Noticeably, Cameron Jerome too.

BREAKING NEWS! I can't spell substitution. And many other words.

SUBSITIUTION: Rickie Lambert comes off for Southampton and the youngster Sam Gallager comes on.

Still 1 - 0 to Southampton.

73 - Luke Shaw finds himself in space near the edge of the Crystal Palace area and aims a tame shot goalwards, which is picked up easily by Speroni.

The game has come down a gear or two in the last 10 minutes or so.

Comfortably cleared.

70 - Adam Lallana wipes out Ince on the touch line. Free kick Palace.

My mistake, Bolasie's still busy out there. It was Kagisho Dikgacoi that went off. It all happened while I was trying to work out who was getting the yellow card!

And the subs are in action straight away as Jerome forces a corner from Inces hard work.

64 - YELLOW CARD: Schneiderlin smites Jedinak in the middle of the park.

SUBSTITUTIONS - Ince and Jerome on for Puncheon and Bolasie

57 - YELLOW CARD. Jedinak swots a Saints attacker down. Chorus of You Don't Know What You're Doing from the Holmesdale.

Rickie Lambert boshes the free kick from five yards outside the area just over/wide.

55 - YELLOW CARD. Davis in the book for an unnecessary body check on Joe Ledley in the middle of nowhere.

The games is noticeably more physical in this second half.

50 - Bolasie acting like he's hit the R3 stick on FIFA there, dancing around defenders with impressive skill on the edge of the Southampton penalty area. It's leads to nought, however.

A splendid way to end National Pie Week too - a hearty feast with big chunks of steak.

I've finished the pie now, by the way, and typing with two hands again. Just thought you should know.

48 - Jedinak plops it a long way over the bar. Waste.

YELLOW CARD: Lovren brings down Bolasie, who was streaking through towards the goal.

Free kick to Palace in a great spot 30 yards out.

We've got a problem. More specifically, I have a problem. The teams are back out and I've got approx 27 per cent of pie left.

Southampton have dominated possession, but their goal came fortuitously on the break as Rodriguez charged down the field after Puncheon's slack header.

It was end to end stuff as we went into half time, and there's sure to be plenty more in this game in the next 45.

But, for now, I need a pie.

HALF TIME: Crystal Palace O - 1 Southampton.

45- Good save from Boruc. The corner bobbles around with the ball landing at Bolasie's feet at the edge of the area. He fires low through the crowd but the Saint's keeper gets down to it.

YELLOW CARD - Jose Fonte goes in the book for a foul five yards from the Palace area. The resultant free kick is nudged over for a corner.

44 - Lambert hits the post with a deft flick from an innocuous-looking cross from Lallana!

Jason Puncheon seems to be at least a bit culpable for that goal, as Pulis shakes his head on the sidelines.

Here's what our reporter Andrew McSteen just tweeted:

37 - 1-0 to Saints. A poor/lazy header from Puncheon to Scott Dann saw Rodriguez chase down the ball and nick it pass Speroni.

Hard on Palace, that. After absorbing all the Saints pressure, they had just seized the initiative.

GOAL! It's scrambled clear. Rodriguez sprints downfield like a hare, tussles with last man Speroni - whose had to leave his area - and then scoops it goalwards from the floor.

Straight into the hands of Boruc, who clears. But it lands at Bolasie's feet and he charges forward and wins another corner. Selhurst erupts.

34 - Crikey blimey. From nowhere another Eagles corner.

It's nudged away but not well enough and the Eagles have another.

34- Cork confirmed as going odd. Victor Wanyama comes on.

32 - Here's a stat which summarises what we've been seeing: Southampton have made 204 passes to Crystal Palace's 68 after 32 minutes.

Neither side has scored a goal, though.

30 - Man down. Jack Cork is receiving attention for a leg injury after landing awkwardly clearing downfield. He's gone off for now.

It all turned a bit frantic there as Palace swarmed the Saints box, only for Luke Shaw to break, Lallana to square it and Rodriguez's shot to get blocked out for a throw.

The official possession stat, Palace have had 28 per cent. Still 0-0.

Half way through the first half and it's pretty even. Saints have had the most of possession, while Palace have been full of effort. Neither goalkeeper has seen much action.

Straight into the hands of Boruc, who got hold of the ball despite being fouled.

20 - Palace corner. Some pretty pedestrian lead up, but a good chance at the set piece, nevertheless.

After a little bit of back-and-forth, it ends safely in Speroni's hands.

It scoots across, helped by a Palace head, for a throw on the other side.

But the pressure's still on and Saints now have a corner.

15 - Bolasie judge to have handled in the far corner. Davis to whip in the free kick.

12 - Saints passing it around nicely for the most part but some good chasing and some sloppy touches giving the Eagles a decent sniff of posession.

And they look to go on the attack as soon as they get it too.

A couple of nice, insightful touches from Jedinak early on.

The crowd at Selhurst Park in fine voice, as ever. It's a sell out too.

10 - A long ball from Jedinak in the deep seemed to give Murray some space behind the defenders. If only he hadn't have been off side too.

9 - I was off my seat there as Saints piled on a load of pressure in the box. Speroni looked to have pulled off a wonder save...but there had been an offside int he middle of the box long before.

2 - At the other end, another speculative crack as Murray boofs one over his own head and 20m or so over the goal.

A Lallana cross to the edge of the area leads to a speculative volley from Rodriguez. Well wide.

Here we go, Palace kick off. Palace shooting towards the Holmesdale in the first half.

Nothing compared to what every Palace player's getting, though. Obviously.

Nice applause from the home fans as Clyne and Fonte's names read out in the Saints line-up.

Crowd on their feet as the teams come out. *Glad All Over*

The Eagles sit 16th after 27 games, with 27 points. It's tight at the bottom with just 10 points separating 10th and last place, so despite their upturn in form under Pulis, there's still a scrap to stay up.

In their last five league games, Palace have won two, lost two and drawn one.

Saints are comfortably in a rut in 9th on 39 points. Newcastle in 8th are on 43 points and West Ham in 10th have 31. That said, it's been a bit disappointing of late for Southampton three losses, a draw and a solitary win against Hull in their last five.

The Eagles should fancy their chances here.

As the Crystals do their dancing in the middle, here's a reminder of how the teams are doing...

There's no spot in the squad today for Marouane Chamakh, who clearly didn't come through fitness tests after injuring his hamstring in last week's 1-1 draw with Swansea.

And Saints:

Artur Boruc (GK), Nathaniel Clyne, Morgan Shneiderlin, Dejan Lovren, Jose Fonte, Rickie Lambert, Steven Davis, Jay Rodriguez, Jack Cork, Adam Lallana (c), Luke Shaw.

Subs: Paula Gazzaniga, Maya Yoshida, Gaston Ramirez, Victor Wanyama, James Ward-Prowse, Calum Chambers, Sam Gallagher.

Referee: Howard Webb

Here we go, let's start with Palace:

1. Julian Speroni

2. Joel Ward

6. Scott Dann

7. Yannick Bolasie

8. Kagisho Dikgacoi

13. Jason Puncheon

15. Mile Jedinak

17. Glenn Murray

21. Dean Moxey

27. Damien Delaney

28. Joe Ledley

subs: 26. Wayne Hennessey, 11. Thomas Ince, 14. Jerome Thomas, 16. Dwight Gayle, 19. Danny Gabbidon, 30, Cameron Jerome, 46. Barry Bannan.
