Herne Hill Harriers' Ore Adamson rose to number one in the long jump UK rankings on Saturday with a leap of 5.16m at the Youth Development League (YDL).

As well as leading the event rankings for U13, the 12-year-old's jump - which saw her win her age category competition by more than a metre - was also YDL record. Adamson also impressed over 75m, winning her race in 10.2 seconds.

Other YDL winners included Saskia Millard in the U15G 800m and Eloise O'Shaughnessy in the U15G 1,500m, while Jess Collins - another U13G who currently leads the UK rankings - dominated the high jump with a winning clearance of 1.51m.

At the other end of the age spectrum, Vic Maughn won gold medals over 800m and 1,500m in the Surrey County Masters track and field championships.

After showing promising early season form over 3,000m, Maughn ran two minutes 18 seconds and 4:36 respectively to win the M50 categories.

Evergreen Mike Boyle was another gold medallist, clocking 16:52 in the M50 5,000m. Clarence Allen was a further winner in the M50 sprint hurdles at the Ewell meeting.

Elsewhere, Blade Ashby lowered his 400m hurdles personal best at the Bedford International Games, clocking 52.33secs, with Jessie Knight running a season's best of 24.71secs over 200m.

Marvin Popoola ran well over 100m and 200m, albeit not quite matching the lightning times he set at the Surrey championships a week earlier. Peter Phillips (47.90secs) and Nicholas Atwell (48.00secs) also impressed over 400m on day two of the meeting.

Further north, Lewis Lloyd and Mike Cummings clocked season's best times of 1:51.84 and 3:59.41 for 800m and 1,500m respectively at the BMC Grand Prix at Sport City, Manchester.

Lee Van Haeften and Eric Keogh represented Herne Hill in the 5,000m, with Van Haeften notching a best time of 14:41, with Keogh further back in 15:12.

John Kettle led the Harriers charge at the Dorking 10, finishing fifth in 55:52. Marathoner Jonathan Ratcliffe was 23rd in 60:17, Ed Barrow finished 66th in 64:34 and Rick Pearson was 77th in 66:05.

Earlier in the week, Harriers followed a match-winning performance in the opening fixture of the Rosenheim League East Division with a more low-key showing at Croydon.

Mark Dooley's 8:39 to finish second in the 3,000m was the highlight of Herne Hill's night for the men's squad, while Eva Joseph was a winner in the 100m in 12.6secs for the women's.

Nicholas Atwell was the fastest 200m runner of the meeting, clocking 22.74secs despite being a non-scorer.

On a brighter midweek note, sixth-former Lascelles Hussey - who is attempting to breach 3:58 over 1,500m in the next fortnight to qualify for the English Schools Championship - clocked 4:01.07 at a BMC meeting at Eltham.

Hussey will make his next sub-four attempt on Wednesday at a Watford BMC meeting, where Maughn will also attempt to run himself into the top 10 of the UK rankings for M50 athletes over 1,500m.
