Croydon Harriers took on the best young athletes in Surrey at the Bruce Judd cross-country relays in Guildford on Saturday.

The U17 men bagged the club’s highest finish over the 2.5km course in seventh position with the trio of Omar Harhara (seven minutes 25 seconds, 18th overall), Luke Wakeling (7:43, 25th) and Kieron Connor (7:32, 22nd) improving on their displays 12 months ago.

The U13 girls also impressed in 20th, the first time Croydon have had a team in this age group for more than a decade.

Cassandra Howard, Leanne Moore and Kyra Sethna-McIntosh comprised the scoring team.

There were also Harriers in action in three other age groups during the afternoon.

Jordan O’Dongo (7:55) was 25th overall in the U15 boy’s category, Lexus Croydon 3k winner Jessica Moore (8:32) was 13th and Zachary Blair (9:47) was 63rd in the U13 boys' race.

At the East Surrey League, nine Croydon Harriers were in action at the season’s curtain-raiser at Lloyd Park.

David Brown led the hosts home in fifth in the 60-strong field, covering the five-mile course in 31:12.

Alan Burn (10th, 32:21) was the second M45 athlete home and was supported by training partners Neil Aikman (15th, 33:12) and Glenn Barden (17th, 33:31) completed the scoring quartet - they placed third in the team race.

Non-scoring support came courtesy of Abdesselam Moustakim (34:29, 24th), Andy Del Nevo (42nd, 39:27), Robert Rye (43rd, 39:36), Norman Hemming (51st, 41:34) and Jules Williams (53rd, 43:51).

At the Amsterdam marathon, Mohsin Harhara booked his place at the Virgin London marathon thanks to a 3.09:47 lifetime best performance.

In the pick of the parkrun action, Jake English was runner-up at Lloyd Park in 17:41, and Sam Clayton was fifth in 19:06.
