Hercules Wimbledon's runners battled through wind, rain and mud to win two sets of team medals in the annual Surrey cross-country championships at Lloyd Park on Saturday.

With three of last year's title-winning team missing, Hercules Wimbledon's senior men did well to take the bronze team medals - missing out on silver by just three points.

Ben Toomer and Liam White, who led the team to gold at Denbies Vineyard, Dorking, in 2014, were both absent, along with James Davis who was the fourth scorer.

In their absence, it was left to Fred Slemeck to lead the mud-spattered gold and red vested Hercules Wimbledon runners home finishing 13th of the 236 runners and covering the 12km course in 43 minutes 33 seconds.

Next was Joe Clark (21st, 45:04) followed closely by Dominic Kiralfi (22nd, 45:07), Kieran White (26th, 45:52), Joe Toomey (27th, 45:37) and Matthew Sharp (30th, in 45:47).

Hercules Wimbledon packed well with their scoring six runners completing the course before the first six scorers from the gold and silver medal-winning teams.

Other leading finishers were Alex Robinson (48th, 47:18) and Rob Tuer (53rd, 47:42) with George Longworth (64th, 48:18).

Hercules Wimbledon had a record 18 runners in the senior race.

The other set of bronze team medals were secured by the men's U20 team of Cassian Hyde (10th, 20:30), Connor Bindler (12th, 20:35) and Barnaby Woods (15th, 20:55), who raced over 6km.

With husband David and sons Lucas and Jasper cheering her on, Claire Grima led the Hercules Wimbledon women's team to eighth place finishing 13th out of 129 runners covering the 8km course in 33:56.

Gina Galbraith (37th, 36:57), Lisa Thomas (46th, 37:28) and Alison Purnell (65th, 39:20) completed the scoring team. Francesca Clarke (66th, 39:36) finished just outside the scoring quartet.

A total of 48 Hercules Wimbledon runners competed in the eight championship races.

Zoe Illis was 13th in the U20 women's 5.7km race in 29:07, and Ruby Shipton was 27th in the women's U17 championship over the same distance in 32:33.

Isabelle Ellis was 21st in the U15 girls 4km race in 18:16, while Madeleine Orenstein was the best of four Hercules Wimbledon runners in the U13 girls 3km championship finishing 23rd in 12:28 and leading the team to 10th place.

Jack Collins led a trio of Hercules Wimbledon runners home in the men's U17 6km championship finishing 11th in 21:22.

Zac Purnell was 18th in the boys  U15 4km championship in 15:47, leading the club's runners to sixth team place.

Daniel Illis led the Hercules Wimbledon runners home in the boys U13 3km championship finishing 30th in 11:32. The team finished ninth.
