Croydon Harriers’ men scooped a bronze medal at the Reigate Priory Relays on Saturday, the club’s highest finish in more than a decade.

David White kicked off Croydon’s challenge covering the 2.5-mile course in 15 minutes 17 seconds (24th fastest individual overall) to handover in eighth position.

Loughborough student Dom Nolan then took the reins and clocked the sixth quickest time of the afternoon in 13:57.

The 20-year-old made up six places before handing to Ernie Hann, who consolidated third matching White’s earlier time of 15:17.

Coach Alan Burn (15:54, 42nd) clung on valiantly from an ever chasing Epsom contingent to ensure the club’s first medal at this race in many years.

The result is a one place improvement on their best finish of fourth set two years ago and bodes well ahead of the second round of 2XU Surrey cross-country league this Saturday.

The B team of Mark Lynch (16:47, 73rd), James Moore (17:09, 87th), Colin Oxlade (17:22, 95th) and Andy Del Nevo (18:55, 141st) finished 27th, and the C team, which included Oliver Hosken (18:34, 128th) and Matthew Kiernan (17:09, 87th), were just eight seconds behind in the 44-team field.
