Croydon Harrier James Dasaolu has revealed his frustration after being disqualified in the 60m semi-final of the IAAF World Indoor Championships.

The 28-year-old was immediately shown a yellow card after jumping out of his blocks well before the start gun – a repeat of his jump-start at last month’s ISTAF Indoor in Germany.

Dasaolu had comfortably strolled through his first round heat in Portland, USA, clocking 6.59 seconds.

However, the south Londoner, could not hide is disappointment at not qualifying for the final which he felt was an opportunity greatly missed.

He said: “Words can’t describe how disappointed I am. I really wanted to make the final and push for a medal, but my hopes have been halted with the disqualification.

“I was just really eager to get out and just post a quick time and come back for the final.

“I really did think I heard the gun, I didn’t think I jumped it. But obviously I heard the second recall gun and that was it.”

He added: “I could have gone at least sub 6.50secs, I know my training times are within my personal best of 6.47secs.

“So it’s just really disappointing that it’s the end of my championships now.

“Obviously no medal is guaranteed until you get to the final, but I was one of the contenders and I haven’t even got the chance to show myself in the final.

“It’s extremely frustrated, I really did think this would be the bounce back championships and I would get 2016 back on track because 2015 wasn’t the best of years for me.

“But it wasn’t to be and I’ve just got to wait for the summer to amend things now.”

Dasaolu is now preparing for the outdoor season which starts in a couple of months, where he is expected to defend his European 100m title in Amsterdam, while also trying to qualify for Rio 2016.
