James Buchanan held back some of his efforts in Saturday’s East Surrey League opener for an appearance in the following day’s Barns Green half marathon, in which he finished fifth.
But Buchanan was still the first Croydon Harriers finisher in the senior men’s five-mile race in ninth (31:03), with Craig Purle 20th (32:52), David Brown 26th (33:54) and Julian Dillow 34th (34:41).

Senior C: 103 Keith Brown 43.20, 112 Eric Campbell 49.48.
U17s & U15s: 22 Subhan Mohammed 17:16 (27 finishers).
U13s: 16 Matthew Lucas (18:26), 18 Holly Lucas (fifth girl) 19:08.
