Plummer does the job to notch up new sprinting best

Herne Hill Harriers’ Zanson Plummer raced to a lifetime best in winning the 100m at the South of England U15 inter-counties match at Barnet Copthall Stadium on Saturday.

Plummer, 13, improved on his previous best of 11.3 seconds, set in a McCain’s Young Athletes League match at Watford in July, as he took full advantage of a 1.9 metres per second following wind to record a time of 11.26.

He was the only Surrey winner in the U15 match, in which the county was fourth with 83.5 points, behind Essex (104.5), Berkshire (98.5) and Middlesex (98).

Walton’s Reece Barnet also achieved a personal best in finishing third in the high jump (1.70m). He was also sixth in the long jump (5.66m).

Sutton & District’s Dabiel Ghosh was sixth in the 200m (24.00) and seventh in the shot (12.93m).

Another Walton athlete, Matthew Szepietowski had mixed fortunes. He was eighth in the hammer with 36.82m, but then failed to register a throw in the javelin.

Kingston & Polytechnic’s Nicole Kendall achieved a personal best of 2.50m in taking fourth in the U15 girls pole vault.

Sutton’s Kerri Davidson was seventh in the long jump (4.76m).

Herne Hill’s Simeon Ramsey-Graham (21.82) and Matthew Walcott (14.27) took the men’s 200m and 110m hurdles in the U20 match, where Surrey finished third with 113.5, behind Essex (142.5) and Hertfordshire (130.5).

Walcott’s time improved on his previous best of 14.40.

Another Herne Hill athlete, Michael Wheeler, produced a season’s best throw of 16.84m to take second place in the shot.

Hercules Wimbledon’s Cale Edmunds was fifth in the long jump (6.60m) and Herne Hill’s Shola Olojo (13.49m) sixth in the triple jump.

Two other Surrey men’s U20 winners were Oweka Wanogho (10.87) and Lawrence Okoye (58.64m) in the 100m and discus.

Sutton’s Sarah Abrams (11.48m) took the U20 women’s triple jump and was also sixth in the high jump (1.55m).

Herne Hill’s Rebecca Zelic was fourth in the 100m hurdles (20.04) and Epsom & Ewell’s Isabel Brinsden sixth in the 1500m (4:58.74).

Croydon’s Twinelle Hopeson took the 100m (11.96).
