Herne Hill Harriers won 27 medals at the Surrey County Indoor Championships at Sutton Arena last weekend.

Across all age groups, they claimed a staggering 12 golds, seven silvers and eight bronzes – with two of those coming in the men’s U17 60m where Marvin Popoola (6.99 seconds) and Zanson Plummer (7.03) made it a club one-two.

Denisha Marshall-Brown, who recently featured in a short film highlighting Olympic values, won the U13 girls’ 60m in a championship best performance of 8.24 and claimed a bronze in the U15 girls’ shot put, a feat emulated by her brother, Dejean, in the U15 boys’ shot put.

Among the gold medal winners, there were long jumpers Jonathan Grant, with a new personal best 6.97m leap in the U20 men’s, Christopher Sinclair, with 5.29m in the U15 boys’ event and Bintu Freeman in the U13 girls’ competition with 4.40m.

Others to leave with gold around their necks were Tayo Andrews (U17 men’s high jump), Leila Abandah (U20 women’s high jump), Rushane Thomas (U20 men’s 60m hurdles), Rebecca Zelic (U20 women’s 60m hurdles), Michella Obijiaku (U15 girls’ shot put), Michelle Watson (senior women 60m) and Funto Fubanmi-Alade (U20W 60m).

Harriers hosted their annual Frank Harmer Memorial 10km road race in Brockwell Park on Sunday where Sarwar Khan (35 minutes, five seconds) and Basil Wallace (35:43) made it a club one-two.

The women’s race was won by Charlotte Blum in 45:54 as 130 runners took part.
