Teenager Tom's GB target
Herne Hill Harriers' Tom Ashby, who turned 18 last week, has set his sights set on an U20/U23 international vest, writes Stan Allen.
The Battersea-based athlete walloped the club decathlon record by almost 1,000 points at a rainy Woodford Green, setting five personal bests in the two-day event.
His times and distances: 100m (11.63 seconds), long jump (6.20m), shot (12.29m), high jump (1.83m), 400m (52.25), pole vault (3.40m), discus (36.87m), 110m hurdles (15.12) and javelin (43.09m).
Ashby capped his performance by winning the 1,500m in four minutes 50 seconds.
In the senior competition, Kevin Burke had a good first day in the 100m (11.6), long jump (6.51m) and shot (13.07m), before damaging his knee in the high jump (1.77m).
He limped to the finish with 5,920 points, which is just short of the HHH senior record.
