Middlesex director of cricket Angus Fraser has challenged Richmond to produce the next star of professional county cricket.

Teddington added the Middlesex Cup to their Middlesex County Premier League title on Sunday thanks to a comfortable win over Shepherds Bush to seal the borough’s dominance over club cricket in the county this summer.

Twickenham beat defending champions Hampstead by 49 runs on the Green on Saturday to seal second place in the league table for the first time in the club’s history, making it a Richmond one and two.

The borough’s three leading clubs are set to have all of their top three sides in the top divisions of their respective Middlesex County League competitions, with Twickenham’s third team still waiting to hear their promotion fate via committee decision .

“It is big cricket area for Middlesex and this season’s successes shows there are a lot of good things happening in the area from our perspective,” said England team selector Fraser.

“Teddington is a strong club and with Richmond and now Twickenham coming through things are looking healthy.

“The next step now is to build on that and start seeing those clubs bringing young professional cricketers through for Middlesex.

“We have made a start and have funded a coach in the area, so we should start to see that bearing fruit over the next few years.”

Teddington brothers James and David Keightley took seven wickets between them to help their team lift the Middlesex Cup on Sunday.

James (3-17) and David (4-30) combined to dismiss Shepherd's Bush for 129 as the Bushy Park outfit successfully defended 158 all out at Stanmore.
