New Malden Wanderers skipper James Wackett lived up to his name as he smashed 43 off 36 balls to help his side to a 13-run opening day win at Old Whitgiftians in Surrey Championship Division One on Saturday.

Wackett’s efforts helped his side post 267 all out from 49.3 overs – with extras the leading scorer on 63 – before restricting their hosts to 256 for nine in reply, leaving Adam Clarke (101) and Joe Murtagh (61) to rue the profligacy of their bowlers.

Wanderers’ divisional rivals East Molesey secured a six wicket win at Camberley as Simon Barrett (91) and skipper Sam Burge (54*) helped the comfortably chase down 257 for the win.

James McNeil hit his second century of the summer as Chessington opened their Division Two campaign with a win at Dulwich.

McNeil, who hit 132* on his debut at Farnham in April, scored 124 as skipper Daniel Yarnley’s men posted 243 for nine on Saturday, before Taidhg Randall took 4-33 to dismiss the hosts for 127.

Kingstonian wicketkeeper Sayed Ali smashed 102 off 67 balls as Ks recovered from 99 for six to post 301 all out at in Division Four on Saturday. Visitors Farncombe were dismissed for 166.
