Hampton School’s U14 A team will represent Middlesex at the National Schools Championships next year after claiming the English Schools Cricket Association Cup.

They beat Merchant Taylors’ School by 100 runs at the weekend - after posting 200 for seven - to cap a season that featured an eight-match winning streak in May and victories over Dulwich College, St Paul’s School and Reed’s School.

Captain Rahul Desai said: “When we realised we had won the cup it didn’t really sink in at first, but now everyone is talking about it around the school and it is brilliant.”

Elsewhere, Middlesex County League Premier Division Teddington bounced back from back-to-back abandoned matches to beat Stanmore by five wickewts at Bushy Park on Saturday.

The visitors were dismissed for 131 and overseas batsman Tim Armstrong smashed 73 off 77 balls to guide his team to victory and move skipper James Keightley’s men within striking distance of league leaders Ealing.

Twickenham stretched their unbeaten run to five matches and moved out of the division’s bottom three with a five wicket win at Eastcote.

The hosts posted an imposing 255 for seven, but Middlesex’s Don Manuwelge (109*) and Marc Lezar (81) saw the Ts to the win inside 42 overs.

Second-placed Richmond lost a thriller at Southgate by 12 runs.
