2007 champions Reigate Priory were put under pressure before running over winners over Sutton at Cheam Road on Saturday, writes Mike Woods.
At least Sutton gave a heartening team performance in the light of the previous week's disappointing defeat by Dulwich.
After being put in, excellent batting contributions from Sam Seadon, with 49, Andy Sartor 40 and from skipper for the day, Dave Sampson 31, saw Sutton to a total of 196 all out off the allotted 50-overs.
As Priory stuttered to 128 for 5, a win looked on; but the opposition's tail extends long and true and Priory eventually completed the job in their renowned professional style, scoring 199-6 off 45 overs.
Sutton's XI did no better against Reigate Priory's second string at Park Lane.
All out for just 133, Priory knocked-off the required total in 35-overs for the loss of five wickets.
Sutton's third XI provided the only Surrey Championship win this weekend, with victory over Sunbury, who were all out for 107.
Lee Betterridge with 5-44 and Ben Webster 4-41 the main protagonists who along with Paul Liddiard's not out 57, led Sutton to an emphatic 9 wicket triumph.
In the Surrey Cricket League second division, Sutton's IV just failed to beat Ottershaw & Hamm Moor CC.
In a high scoring game, needing 247 for victory, Sutton fell just short on 236, after superb knocks from Paul Steinaker, 73 runs, and young keeper, Dan Edwards with 50, almost set up a win.
Sutton fifths 148 for 9 (Shiv Patel 56,) beat Beddington's 4th XI, 147, (Martin Gardner 3 for 27,) by just 1 wicket in the 4th division.
