Crystal Palace Football Club’s future is in jeopardy after it went into shock administration over unpaid debts.

The beleaguered football club based at Selhurst Park has three times failed to pay wages on time this season and has debts estimated at £30million.

It was due at the Royal Courts of Justice Court today (Wednesday) over its failure to pay a £1.2million bill to Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs.

Former Palace chairman Ron Noades said: “I'm not surprised and I am willing to help out whoever wants to take the club on if I can but I am very non-committal at the minute.”

Brendan Guilfoyle, Chris White and John Russell of the P & A Partnership were appointed administrators last night and will be looking to rescue the club and reconstruct its finances. They are urgently seeking buyers.

The club’s season is now in tatters as Football Association rules mean it will automatically lose 10 points leaving them hovering outside the relegation zone, rather than pushing for the play-offs.

Brendan Guilfoyle said: “This club has been in the spotlight for some months with creditors pressing for payments and players anxious about their wages.

“Our role now is to find a buyer quickly to provide certainty for the employees, players and fans for the future. We are hoping our appointment will be short-lived as we understand there are many interested buyers.”

It is expected the club will be forced to sell promise players like striker Victor Moses and midfielder Darren Ambrose.

Palace chairman Simon Jordan has been seeking to sell the club after a decade as chairman.

He bought the club for £10million in 2000 after the club had spent two years in administration. Fans have also been expressing their worry about the club’s future on internet forums.

On Holmesdale.net, one fan Bubbs wrote: “I just think the future is looking so dire for us at the moment that I'm treating every spurious rumour of takeover interest as a ray of hope.

“I don't think it's overly hysterical to say, that if we still want a football team plying their trade in league football, then we shouldn't be turning away any interest whatsoever.

“My fear is that the next month will make our last administration look like a Champions League triumph.”

Rgmonster wrote: “I was having a good day up to hearing this, I'm bloody mortified now.

“No doubt we will come back stronger, and have to hope that the lads and the gaffer keep the performances up to keep us in the division.

“It's a real shame, it makes this hopeful season a write off now, we were so close to the play off places too.

“Let's all get behind the club however we can, and look forward to a brighter future once this mess is sorted out.”
